Upper Extremity Prosthesis

The loss of all or part of the arm is a tragic event for a patients and a significant challenge to rehabilitation professionals and prosthetist. The large, upper extremity amputee population in India has, historically, been poorly served, with most having no access to support or being provided with ineffective prostheses. Deccan OrthPro has made high quality service standards and devices accessible to amputees through cosmetic(passive), mechanical, myoelectric and bionic prosthesis/artificial hand for various level of amputation like above elbow, below elbow, wrist disarticulation etc.

Cosmetic or Passive Prosthesis

Passive prostheses are generally considered to be devices that are worn purely for cosmetic purposes. A cosmetic upper extremity prosthetic device is similar in appearance to the non-affected arm or hand and replaces what was lost. It provides aid in balancing and carrying.

Conventional or Mechanical Prosthesis:

A Body Powered or Cable Controlled or Conventional or Mechanical Prosthetic device is operated by harness system. The harness system is controlled by specific body movements to pull the cable and make the TERMINAL DEVICE or HAND open or close. Mechanical body powered terminal devices generally referred to as voluntary-opening hand.

Myo - Electric Prosthesis :

Myo Electric Prostheses are powered by electric motors with an eternal power source. The joint movement of upper limb prosthesis ( e.g. hand, wrist, and/or elbow) is driven by microchip-processed electrical activity in the muscles of remaining limb stump.
